I must be getting older...

I have pink hair! I went for it... I always wanted to do it but well, I worked in corporate America and I couldn't really go for it. I didn't want them to stop paying me or anything! Jill did it on Thursday and chopped it off as well. It's pretty cute if I do say so myself. I have to go back and have her lighten the top a little more, my hair takes forever to go blond and well, the whole process took so long we were just DONE. I think we lowered her hourly rate to below minimum wage!



And I guess as payback Matthew decided to do something drastic with his facial hair. It's terrible. At least I have Jessica on my side. She apparently told him that she couldn't talk to him because it was too distracting. This would be a cute picture if not for the crazy hair!

And the other sign I am getting old? I opened a box of Lucky Charms on Saturday and I kid you not, they have got to be about 70% Marshmellow and 30% Oats. Disgusting! So I took a picture because I though no one would ever believe me! The bowl isn't even true to life since I kept taking them out to give to Duncan, who though the 70:30 mix was fantab! I shook the box and everything. I ended up adding Cheerios which worked perfectly by the way, even though Matthew said it violates some unwritten breakfast cereal law.

This reminded Matthew and I of a funny story from when we went to Lake Powell with a bunch of Michael's friends. Jared was eating his bowl of Lucky Charms one morning and he had carefully picked through the bowl and ate all of the little oats ones in preparation for the ever-rewarding, only marshmellow, final bites. Michael ran by, grabbed the bowl and dumped them right over the side of the houseboat. !SPLASH! and ran off after saying "Those are bad for you!" I think it's the only time I have ever seen Jared mad. Michael was in t r o u b l e! Hilarious!

So Aunt Jane sent me to some website that has like 50 dish rag patterns! It's fabulous! But after making a few I decided on my favorite and I have been cranking them out. I have plans on what to do with them that I can't quite disclose just in case the receivers read the blog (I am not sure if they do or not...) So you will have to just stay tuned to see where they end up. I bought a lot of the yarn to make them and they actually go pretty quick so if anyone wants a couple just let me know. Wendy came over to learn how to make them but I haven't got the update on how it's going. The cutest pattern wasn't the easiest... but once you get it down it's pretty simple. My other little project is on hold at the moment but I will get back to it.

Beth came over to hang out on Saturday and it was fun, I was trying to talk her into bringing over one of her boyfriends so we could meet them and play games but it didn't work. She left early and ran off to their house. It came out that Matthew is rather intimidating to these strapping young men that she brings over! Boy are they in for it once they get to know him! He's not scary at all! (Except of course, the facial hair every now and then...)

On Saturday we had a NICU meeting after they brought on a few new volunteers! Two that I know! It was so exciting to see those moms that I hardly ever see (except on Facebook!) and it was just a loud room full of chatty girls! We shared some inspirational stories to get things going. It was nice.

I took this picture of Tracy last weekend when they came over to play games. It was supposed to be a nice cute picture of him reading but Duncan lost it for some reason. Even Charlotte's not sure why. Tracy's face is priceless though so I had to add it!

The art of the dish rag

So Monday night didn't really work out for our dish rag lesson but we have rescheduled and I am taking a break from mastering the art of the dish rag to post this new entry. Then I will promptly get back to it. Jessica gave me a pattern that some nice lady has up for free on the interwebz and so far it looks great! (It would look better if I would stop adding a stitch to every other row but hey... no rag's perfect right?) Wendy is coming over tomorrow morning and we can learn together!

We went and got the RSV Vax today and as any parent probably knows, shots are a thousand times worse when the ratio of kid to adult is 2:1. So Beth went with me again. She always sees the babies at their most fun times doesn't she? It was a huge help and she even let me quickly run into JoAnns after for some yarn! Hooray! I need her here but I think my mom would have withdrawals, it will be bad enough when she's shipped off to college in the fall.

Dylan is ALMOST up to 12 pounds again. She's at 11lbs 15.6 oz. So let's round up shall we?! That's good. She's really only 'erupted' a couple more times, yesterday was a doozy though... wooo boy! Poor little thing. Not much gets her down though, if she's too uncomfortable she just goes to sleep.

I would post the crying pictures of Dylan but they are soooo not flattering and Beth already gave me a hard time for taking pictures when they were sad!

The Incredible Shrinking Baby!

Dylan is down to 11 lbs 12 oz! She's shrinking! I know this because she has been a little sick this week. It's a bout of the flu or something and she's had a hard time since Sunday night. She also has a bit of a bump where she got her shots two weeks ago so, because of the combo of things I took her to the doctor yesterday. She is down from 12'6 when she got her shots! Yikes, she was doing so well!

We give her an appetite stimulant and I had cut her dose in half (just call me Dr. Mom) and it's been really working the last couple of months but now I might have to bump her back up to get her back on track. He put her on a 2x a day antibiotic so it won't be hard to slip that other dose of the appetite stuff in there I suppose. Bah!

I went to Costco and the lady checking us out asked how far apart the babies are. Uhhmmm... 20 minutes! She is just so small they really could be 9-ish months apart.

Duncan took his first couple of steps last Saturday, wobbled to Matthew. He's done it a couple times since, to me and from one couch to the other but he's still way wobbly. Since he's the fastest crawler anyone has seen, at this point he would just prefer that... HOWEVER... He has realized that being that much taller affords you great opportunities. Pictured here:


I had to rearrange my drawer a little. You know, to remove hazzards such as the heavy rolling pin and the tiny cake decorating tips. But now he's all for it. Reach, grab, drop... Reach, grab, drop... It's great fun. And near the bottom of the picture you can see he was in that cupboard too. We clearly need more toys around this place.

Jill told me the other day when she had him the boys were all lined up in their car seats and Duncan and Noah had just woken up so they each had their binkis in their mouths. Duncan glanced over at Noah and a light bulb went on. He reached up to grab his binki with his left hand, with his right he grabbed Noah's right out of his mouth and put it in his own. Sucked for a few seconds and then handed it back. Noah said "Thank you." I guess he wanted to try Noah's on for size but when he determined it was no different he just gave it back. So cute!

Last night we went to eat with Megan and Michael and then they came over for games. Tonight it's Shannon and Tracy, yay! We haven't actually seen them in a while so it will be fun. Well, they did drop off Valentines Rice Krispie treats but Charlotte was sleeping in the car so they didn't stay.

On Monday's knitting night we have a dish rag lesson for Wendy! Yay! Since I started crocheting a lot of people have asked about them so I guess it would be good to know how to make them. Jessica said you make them with Cotton but instead of bleaching you put them in the microwave for a few second and it kills all the bugs. Interesting! Since our regularly scheduled Monday night programming, The Bachelor, will probably be a bit lame (we could care less about previous Bachelor updates, Trista and Ryan *gag*) there will be a lot of fast-forwarding and time for learning new things.

Happy Valentine's Day!

So last night was poker night again, I know... so soon after last time right? Anyway, it was the best ever because Jess just came over to have an off-Monday knitting night! That's like her, at my house, three times in one week! How lucky am I?! So anyway... most of the night we talked, like you know, we never see eachother but whatever. I finished my afghan! I don't know when I started it though, like a month ago? I should go back in the blog and see how long it took. The middle wasn't as big as it was supposed to be so we just made up the edge and it turned out very nice (if I do say so myself!) it's not really HUGE, but it's pretty good snuggling size.

I did pull out my Holly Hobby blanket that Grandma Shirley made me when I was pretty young. I have no idea how old I was. Not very... I just remember thinking that it was B-U-tiful! Like. the prettiest thing ever. And I knew Jess would appreciate it. I was right, she marveled at the mad grandma Shirley skills and also how well it's held up over this many years. It does need a bath though, I am willing to bet that it hasn't been washed a single time so she gave me advice on how to wash it very gently.

I forgot to mention Duncan and his pointing. Pointing is a developmental thing and at their appointment a week ago the doctor asked if he was making hand gestures and I said he was waving and clapping. Then he asked if Duncan pointed and I said not yet... Then I brought them home and put him down for a nap. When he woke up I went to get him and as I was almost to the door he stopped and pointed at the smoke detector! I was like...STINKER! I just told the doctor NO! He's obsessed with smoke detectors, we take him all over the house and he looks up and points.

And we got our cards from Grandma Shirley with a dollar for each of the babies. Yay! Happy Valentine's!

Dylan's been way more aware of her surroundings lately. She's been watching us around the room and stuff and that's relatively new. Well, she noticed Mushi, and so we went for a quick pat on the head. He hated it, but she seemed to like it... so, too bad for Mushi. I always wanted him to be a therapy dog, maybe he will be for Dylie!

So at yesterday's cardio appointment they just looked at Dylan's weight and stuff to make sure that her heart wasn't keeping her from growing. The doctor decided that it was more her syndrome that was the problem, not her heart so she's cleared for 2 years. The ASD that she has is pretty significant so she doesn't expect it to close on it's own. More than likely she will have to have it repaired when she's 3-4. The Doctor came in was excited to see Dylan again but commented that Dylan's medical history is 'daunting'. Uhmmm... yea... I'd say.

After the appt. I had lunch with Val and Simon. Simon's another unique chromosome guy and he's so stinking cute! He can't walk yet at 3 and a half, so he has to coolest ride in town. They just got word that both of the holes in Simon's heart closed on their own. Yay! While we were eating we ran into my friend from High School, Heather... I ran into her in the NICU a while back when her little 26 weeker was born, remember that? He was up at Primary, just over from the U, so they could take a look at his little brain. He's still in the NICU even though they are approaching his original due date... he has a few weeks left though, he's still on oxygen and they always have to get their eyes cleared to go home. They are hanging in there but are definitely sick of the hospital!

On Sunday Dylie got a surprise from her Aunt Ami, a new FAVORITE blanket/toy/fun this to chew on! I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my last post because it's Dylan's new favorite thing. I need pictures of her eating it but she's sleeping and I probably shouldn't wake her up just for picture time. So you get a picture of this cute thing, minus the baby.



I am waiting for Dylie's PT and the Early Intervention representative for Dylan's annual evaluation. We will see where she ranks developmentally... not that it matters. =)

Cardio appointment this week

And that is about all we have going on. Jill's going to take Duncan I think and then Dylie and I will travel up to Primary to see Dr. Everett about her heart. I don't know what else they are going to do though, if they give it until they are 2 or 3 to close on their own, what good's an appointment every few months? Maybe I will be enlightened, I will keep you posted.

Beth went with me to their 15 month well-child appointment last week. That was nice. Both babies got three shots and it was generally not a fun place to be. Before that though Duncan was crawling all over the Ped, talking to him and snuggling with him. The Dr even said "Oh, you're making me feel bad" knowing full well the shots were coming up next. He said "Normally people your size don't like me too much!"

Mom came over again to watch the babies while I went to the NICU which was a complete strike out. There weren't many people there, the people there had their curtains drawn and the nurses weren't very nice. *sigh* It's nicer when my therapist friends are there giving me the scoop because then the nurses don't examine you all cross eyed when you go walking in. Oh well. I did get to talk to the twin's mom that I spoke about a while ago in the blog. Those babies were getting packed and ready to go home! The baby girl was just over 4 lbs and the boy, not quite... but I think as long as he didn't lose weight they checked out. I imagine they are all happily together now... getting ready for their drive back to Washington. They seemed very excited!

Jess and Steve came over to play games Saturday and she made these evil caramel filled brownies. They were delightful! I think I might need the recipe just in case I ever get motivated to actually cook something that involved! For now I will stick to my sugar cookies.

Nothing and some cute videos

Nothing exciting happening lately really. We were going to have Jess and Steve over to play games but she wasn't feeling well so we let her off the hook, for one week anyway... If they pull it again we are going to start asking questions.

She came over for knitting night on Monday and we worked on our girly stuff while watching our girly 'stories' and it's always a good time. We've decided that it's time to learn the names of the girls on The Bachelor, "Pretty Ava Mendez", "Cat Woman", "Beauty Mark" and the others can get confusing. At one point Jessica said it would be a lot easier if they called them the same thing we did, but I guess we will be the ones to change. I come out of those nights refreshed and ready for the week. We are getting all sorts of crazy on my afghan to try and make it a little bigger, we will see how it turns out. I am having fun with it, who cares if it's functional!

Did I mention Dylan plays with her feet? This is a huge thing and we have been trying to get her to do it for a few weeks and she finally lifts them up and plays with them. She kicks them straight up in the air. The PT at clinic said this is good because she will have the momentum to roll over (when she wants to). We are having fun showing her her toes now though.

And Duncan's walking all over this place along furniture. He has discovered this whole new world that's about 12 inches higher. He can reachup on the end tables and on the couch, almost to the back... He's discovering all my good hiding places! I am going to have to re-train myself!

Here's a video of Dylan playing in one of the saucers, I showed her the turning thing and how to do it and she liked it. There's only so much a little person who isn't moble can do for entertainment you know.
