Speaking of being asleep before the freeway, man this transition from nap to no nap is HARD. I think harder than the two naps to one nap transition!
Anyway, while we were at the float show the kids got their picture taken with a mermaid who gave them each a shell. Abbi's broke the same day and I hear there were many tears. Duncan's lasted a few days but only because we forgot about it. He refound it on Saturday and when he and I ran to the bread store (I am an addict...) I went to hand it to him and it fell to the ground and a piece broke off so you could see inside. I was in trouble! I apologized over and over, I told him I was SO sorry and he said "Mooo-ooom, that mermaid will be so angry with me!!" I assured him she was very nice and I was sure she would understand. After I talked to Traci I told him Abbi broke hers as well and the mermaid was very nice and didn't care. That seemed to work. Whew, dog house.
Duncan has taken to telling me "be calm" when he gets in trouble. "Mom, be calm!" to which I have to respond "I am calm but you still can't do that!" Even better he actually told Matthew to be calm the other day. Yea, funny because Matthew is like the calmest person on the planet. And then there was when he said "be calm mom" out of the middle of no where and I looked over to see him digging through my nightstand drawer. He knows he's not supposed to be in there... Way to announce you being naughty! It was like the one time Matthew forgot to buckle him in to his seat and as I was driving I heard "Wheeeeeee!!!!" over my right shoulder because he was standing up and turned around. He told on himself, if he would have just kept quiet... Again "I am calm, but you still cannot play in my drawer..."
Monday night for family night was had Pavement of Fire! (Thanks Tracy and Matthew for that title!) and we had all of Matthew's family over for fireworks and fun. Everyone was going to bring the fireworks that they were plannig with their family and we could set them off together. Ami returned hers though, hearing that Matthew and Gary were all over it, and brought three tubs of homemade ice cream! YUM.
About an hour before the festivities there as a down pour, and then it slowed to a drizzle which remained most of the time but Matthew cleared out the garage for chairs and blankets and we all sat in there to watch. Mid-way through the show LouAnn asked what my neighbors would think about it and I told her Matthew was too endearing for any of them to hold a grudge! Little did I know, my favorite neighbors missed neary the entire show, driving up right before the end. She was upset we hadn't called her for the fun! Mad neighbors indeed. Matthew offered them a peace offering of homemade ice-cream and she forgave us.
On a separate note, the iPad finally got a clue... Us us us us, yay! No more auto-correct to u's. Us us us. Us u's u's.. Oh man... U's u's u's spoke too soon.
Shannon and Tracy also joined us which is good because they were on Duncan all night. No one really keeps him as entertained as Charlotte. I couldn't have done it without the help from everyone since Matthew was lighting the fireworks. So all hands on deck. Dylan even joined us and hung out on Aunt Eden's blanket for the festivities.
It was a late night as I rushed the boys in to the tub right before bed! Course they didn't sleep in, man... They should get that sleep is a great thing don't you think?
We also got the rest of Matthew's birthday present, a trampoline! Matthew and Duncan busied themselves putting it all together and it's great fun. I forgot how much fun they are! Yay for entertainment!
And we have some sickles here. I cursed myself Monday night as I finished up Dylan's feed I said out loud to her "Wow, you haven't puked in a while!" 15 minutes and a splash later and I turned around and she was sitting behind a puddle as big as she was! Whoopsie. Thinking it was a fluke, we fed her a full feed before bed (bad idea) and basically she's been on a slow drip ever since. i will try a larger one time feed later today and see how she does. Bummer though.
Ian just seems to have a cold, which means we are all next. Boo.
I love how the mermaid and Duncan have the same look on their faces. (She looks like she would get very angry doesn't she?)

Cousins! Don't you wonder what Greg was thinking?

I just looked down and found him here and Traci had to snap a picture. I tucked him in after, he was down for the count. Apparently parades bore him? Who would have thunk it?

Ian didn't care about anyting but the Smarties! Bring 'em on!

And Dylie...

Another CHEEESE!

He officially likes sparklers more than me. Well... then he burst out in tears and freaked out. So we DO feel the same way about them eh?

Cute cousins!

Almost smiling at me. What a cute face!

Driveway of Fire Grand Marshall

Almost twinners!

Ian just wants to "pat pat pat" Asher's head.

But this one's pretty cute!
