I went for a run in the morning and got back just before nine. I was a little surprised to see the kids a little less far along getting ready than I had anticipated. We were already running late for our little Easter surprise. We planned to do the same special needs Easter event that we did last year with Shannon and Tracy. Unfortunately, Asa was not feeling very well and they couldn't go but we were set.
It. Was. Awesome.
Again.
It's sensory friendly so they make you RSVP so not too many people are there and lines and crowds aren't too much of an issue. Works well, except at the balloon lady but she was making some pretty incredible balloons so I think that had something to do with it.
Ian has been on a huge super hero kick lately which we are finding pretty dang fun. Duncan was so trains (still is) that it's kind of fun to have something new and interesting. At the even there was Spiderman, Ann and Elsa and Belle. Well, Spiderman!!! Ian was super impressed! He got a little shy and embarrassed but wanted to go see him... badly... So we walked up to Spiderman and Ian froze in place. He was looking up at him smiling! That's it. He got "hi" and a couple "yes"s through a clinched teeth smile. I asked if he wanted his picture and he said yes, still staring and Spidey. Spidey bent down and posed and Ian kept staring! I told him to look at me. Oh my word, they were all laughing at him. It was so cute!
We even had to go back when Ian saw him on his Spidey bike for another picture!
The Easter bunny was not that big of a draw after Spiderman but we did our thing and got our picture taken with... it? Just like last year except not sitting :( and minus Charlotte and Asa :(. would have been better for Dylan sitting but hey, Easter Bunny with no line? Yes please! Check!
We mellowed out for a little break and then we had lots of eggs to dye. It was crunch time! Matthew had the Priesthood session of conference with his brother-in-laws at night and we had Easter to prepare for. Dylan became obsessed with the 'new' colorful egg dying cups. (She loves cups, she chews on the rim and sings because it amplifies her voice.) So I kicked her to her bedroom toot sweet. Oh my, I can just imagine the disaster with the round eggs and cups full of dye!
The boys actually did alright. Matthew and I worked quickly with enough direction and action for the boys to feel like they adequately participated in the process. Perfect! Wahlah! Eggs!
Easter Sunday we went to my mom's house for the best part of Easter! The egg hunt in her yard! The kids love it, look forward to it and start talking about it as soon as they realize that Easter is coming. It was a fun weekend for sure!
