Our UN-picture day

So uhmm... yea. Remember how I mentioned in my last post that we had family pictures on Monday? Well.. funny that... we didn't. So, I was running around like crazy getting five kids ready to go, as well as myself, and running out the door for no good reason! We are taking pictures NEXT Monday! So we got a bit of a dry run, which was good, I guess. I have a few notes for next time.

Meanwhile, I borrowed Kristen's camera and took a few pictures myself! Now, I fully plan to get shown up by a professional next week, so take these with a grain of salt, but they aren't so shabby! I didn't fully edit them, I will wait to combine them all and choose some favorites. But... for your viewing pleasure...

Dylan and Ian's love fest. I wasn't kidding when I said he is cute with her and she adores him. I was just lucky enough to get it on film. Yes it is as adorable and as tender as it comes of, maybe even more so, in real life

Most of the dry run notes were about... yup, you got it. He was NOT having it. I didn't get a SINGLE picture of him smiling... or even looking pleasant for that matter. Oye.

Okay, there may have been some editing done on this one *cough* dead tooth *cough*

The best of the group!! Bahahaha!

Duncan and the dollar

The story goes as follows...
I downloaded a cute free app for the iPad that is a mechanic's garage. You take one of the three cars and change the tires, paint the car and... And well, I think that's about it. Then you can swipe your finger and drive it out of the garage and take your sweet ride for a... Ride.

The free app has three cars but you can pay .99 for an addition three which include a very cool cop car and an ambulance. Duncan played the game for a while and decided he REALLY wanted the additional three cars. I told him that it costs money and I didn't want to spend my money on it. (What? Money? To be honest, if it were a game with a bit more longevity I would have been a sucker and just purchased it, he is a little too used to that.) "But I really want it!" Okay, time to explain this money thing.

I had him read how much it cost. "zero dot nine nine 's'" (the 's' is a very cute way to start recognizing a dollar sign.)

"That is one penny short of a dollar, I don't want to spend my dollar on that."

"But I really want it, really really bad." Pouty face.

"I don't want to spend my dollar on that so I won't buy it with my dollar, do you have a dollar?"

"Nooo" Major pouty face. Then eyes light up "Yes I do! I have five!" As he remembers his brand new crisp five dollar bill he had just received from his great grandma Shirley for his birthday.

"And some quarters?" he is nodding and so SO excited! "Is this what you want to spend one of your dollars on?" He is agreeing. "Are you sure? Because once you spend your dollar it is gone, you will get those cars but you won't have a dollar any more. Are you sure?"

He was still very sure that was what he wanted to waste his money... Err, spend his money on. So I had him run downstairs and get his bank which is fairly new. This whole money thing is very new. He knows he loves quarters but just liked them because they were shiny, not because they actually could buy him something. Once he returned with his bank I asked him again, if he was sure.

Can you see I was really trying to drive the permanence of this home? How is this for foreshadowing? Doing a solid job?

After he told me again that it was what he wanted to spend his money on I explained that four quarters made a dollar and asked if he had four quarters in his jar. I had him pull them out and hand them to me and once again told him he would not get them back if he chose to buy the cars. He still wanted to so he excitedly looked on as I pushed a few buttons and the cars unlocked.

About 37 seconds later...

"WAHHHHHHHHH!!!!" Wailing. Like someone hurt themselves wailing from him. So I rush over to see what the problem was. "I don't want these!!!! Waaahhhhhhh!!!"

"What? The cars?"

"YESSSSS!!! I don't want them!!! I want my QUARTERS!! Wahhhhhh!!!!" My boy was having an attack of buyer's remorse on his first purchase ever."Get rid of themmmm!! I don't want them! I want my money!!!!"

"I am not going to delete that game, you might want it later and you paid money for it."

"Waaahhhhh! Delete it! I don't want it! Wahhhh!" Heaving sobs and some major pouting.

You have to start somewhere right? Hopefully he can earn more quarters cleaning up around this place. And... Hopefully he will think about his purchases just a little bit harder.

That is IF he ever spends his quarters again...

Greyson's blessing is this weekend and I have been trying to pick up around here to get ready. Just cleaning up a bit though the family make events like these a bit like "no trace camping". Often when they leave it's the same, if not a little cleaner, than it was before they got here.

Then Monday the kids are getting their pictures taken. An HPE mom that lives out of town said she would trade a photo session for a ride to and from the airport and I jumped on it. I was excited! What a good deal, this will force me to go through the hassle of getting the kids' pictures taken! Short notice, no over-thinking things! Sweet! Then it all fell apart. Wah wahhh.  Matthew won't be able to go help because he has a dinner that night. What?? By myself? Five kids? Oye! I recruited Melissa and her girls to help. Though I did refer to her girls as sheep dogs which I don't think she appreciated... We will see how this goes.

Halloween wasn't too exciting this year, I was rather lackluster about the whole thing. Duncan wanted to be Thomas again and, since he had been Thomas for a couple years with a borrowed costume, I decided to fork over the $20 (money bags) and procure it myself. Ian apparently wanted to be Buzz, a last minute decision after being asked at Aunt Ami's house the previous Sunday. Since we were going up to Ami's again Eden was going to provide the Buzz outfit.

Ian totally got trick or treating and he loved following around his big brother, albeit a bit more slowly. Asher, did not. He went to a grand total of three houses (with several minutes in between) and was just majorly frustrated that people were handing him candy and said candy was not ending up in his mouth. He was very frustrated. So he rode the stroller the rest of the time. He was happy to go for a walk too and it was warm so it was a great night for a little stroll.

It was time for new contacts so I went to the eye doctor for the first time in what I found out was four years. Four years! So like... Three kids ago! Well, it turns out... Instead of having babies making my eyes worse... The kids got rid of my astigmatism! I was having to wear a different brand in my right eye to correct an astigmatism but no more! Suweeeet! I asked him if I kept having kids would it get me out of wearing contacts altogether and he said it wasn't likely. Frowny face.

I got the D's ready for school on Thursday and took them only to find the parking lot quite empty. I ran into my cute neighbor whose boy goes there and asked why no one was there. (See, I wasn't the only one!) Just as Debi was pulling in, "No school today!!!" Well there you have it. But, we need milk! I was going to go to Walmart while I only had three! So, we will go get milk... I told Duncan we were going to the store and he said "ALL of us are going to the STORE?" Which was my thought exactly. Nevertheless, we did just fine. I have the best kids ever.

This hair is so embarrassing but that smile had to be shown off... Wow, bad hair though, I think we had pulled it back for bed and let her play for a while.

The trouble with this kid is that he is just not cute...

Okay maybe a little. And I am pleased to report he has gotten a bit more cheery lately too.

There are fat rolls too, but this face was the cutest part. Likely the last bath in the sink, he is getting too big. Boo.

The whole crew. This might be the last year of this too. The older kids are starting to want to go in their own neighborhoods with their own friends.
There we are on the right. My pictures of the three boys didn't turn out.

Cute skeleton outfit.

Resting in Aunt Melissa's sweatshirt. He greeted Melissa and Grandma LouAnn each with a great big happy grin. (Eyes looking very blue, Matthew and I have bets.)

Why do they always have to have MY drink? Hewould polish this off if I would let him too.

It's BUZZ! Flying!!
... Or throwing an enormous fit because maybe he didn't want to be Buzz after all.

To be fair, he learned this fit method from his brother, whom I also took a picture of earlier in the week.

Duncan drew a couple people at school. It's him, Ian and he started to draw Greyson as well.

Awwwe

Happy Halloween (Thank you Pinterest!)

Birthday Week

We went to the Halloween carnival on Wednesday and Duncan was calling it "carnivaaaal" like in the movie Rio. "Are we going to the carnivaaaal mama?" which sounded pretty hoity toity. They were almost packed up when we got there because Matthew was had a busy week and got home WAY later than expected. Oh well, it was a little adventure and the boys got to wander a little. I also caught up with some gals from church I hadn't seen in a while. One said "Look the busiest mom in the neighborhood even made it!" to which I told her I was as busy as everyone else but it was a different KIND of busy! Mouths and bums!

This week when Angie came over I went through Greyson's clothes a switched him from 0-3 to 3-6! Oh my word! Already! He is six weeks old! Long though. I was seriously already pulling things out and going "Awwwe! Look how little!" That should not happen when your baby is six weeks old.

Instead of saying "whoopsie" (which he inevitably got from me) Ian says "woop z!" very clearly, it's funny.

Speaking of that one... The tooth is most definitely dead, it is already grey. Poor mommy. He is over it but mommy is the one that will be photoshopping that sucker for the next four years! I am in mourning for his nice white baby tooth. It may be a while before I get over it.

Asher has found his favorite seat. It happens to be your legs when you are sitting in the couch and they are extended over the front of the couch. It doesn't matter how you are sitting in the couch, he will walk up and yell at you if your feet aren't down. You put them down and he will back up to them and plop right down. It has to be good exercise for me.. But it's similar to a dog when they want you to play fetch, he just won't let it go. And with him it's do it or get yelled at. My mom came over so we could take Duncan for ice cream and she said "you told me he would want to do that, you didn't tell me he would want to do it ALL THE TIME!"
He will get off for periods of time and them come back. Like when the "pat pat pat pat pat. Now raise your arms, as high as you can and say... BLAST OFF!" part comes on Little Einsteins. He loves that show and loves to play along! My feet get tired form holding him! Stinker!

Duncan had his big FIVE birthday party, well... As did Dylan, but to her it was any old adventure. She certainly wasn't running around everywhere telling everyone "I am the birthday BOY! I am FIVE!" like her brother! We had LOTS of cousins and friends go to the Bouncy place and everyone had a great time.

I was very proud of my boy because he was a very gracious birthday present opener. It was so cute! He was so appreciative of everything he was great with saying his thanks and he event threw a few random "I love you!!"s in there too! So cute, I loved it! Beaming!

Greyson stayed asleep the whole time to be nice to his mom (and subsequently meal to his aunts that wanted to hold him!)

And here is some info on our birthday boy!

And notes from mommy:
Duncan has so SO much energy but, and this is confirmed by everyone that knows him, it is a sweet energy. He is full of love. That makes it easy to forgive him for not (ever) doing what he is supposed to be doing after being asked. Really it takes quite a few times which I hear is normal. He just wants to play! Getting dressed, eating, going to the bathroom... All a burden for a very busy boy.

He tries really hard to be such a good boy and is actually disappointed in himself when he makes poor choices. I will admit, it's hard at this age for me to realize that he is just too young to think of consequences and that is such a hard lesson to teach (and to learn!) but we work on thinking about what we do before we do it. It's just so hard! He is so tender hearted that I always stress that I love him no matter what he does, I hope he knows that.

Duncan LOVES being a big brother and if it were up to him we would have a baby every year! He is such a good playmate to Ian and he wants to be a good brother to Asher too, but Asher is a hard read for him. Not sure quite how to play with him because he is still kind of baby. Duncan is always trying to 'bait' Ian into playing a game. He would hold Greyson all day long if I would let him and Greyson would be cool with it.

He is just starting to draw what he is thinking of and trying to write letters. We have a lot of fun coming in this area soon and I am looking forward to it. It will be fun to see his cute pictures and letters. He is so fun and creative and I am sure I will have lots of fun things to share.

My Duncan and Dylan are five! I can hardly believe it!

Time to try and get all five kids in one picture!

These two are our favorites!

Dylan tried to escape so I got one with all boys

And then all my skeletons

That right there is pure happiness on the right. He LOVES his baby brothers. Loves loves loves.

Greyson's favorite place (mine too actually) I was SO asleep... nearly drooling I imagine. Awesome Sunday afternoon nap, Matthew snuck up on us.

Right before the party, he is looking over at the group of friends. So excited! Looking like such a big boy.

Dylan enjoying her party. LOVE this picture.

Asher's funny face. He is so silly.

Duncan and Sully making funny faces. Aren't they super cute? Sully has been his good friend from school for two years!

Daddy and Duncan on our special birthday date! He was so excited and silly. He felt very special to be able to go out with just mom and dad! (Thanks Grandma Kathy!)

Silly picture of my peanut. I think he is humiliated.

Yipes!

Further behind than I thought! I need to start posting more frequently, skipping the pictures, and then do a post with lots of catch up pictures! That way I can keep track of what's going in because believe it or not, I have no idea what has happened in the last two weeks! Let's see how I do...

Asher is grumpy, I can tell you that much. He is a grumpy little dude. He goes from 0 to 100 when he doesn't get his way. Which is a lot, since you know, one year olds have an altered sense of what is okay. Not only that but that's the way it works when you are that close to the bottom of the totem pole. But mostly it's because of his unreasonable expectations. Like playing with bath toys in the toilet.

This morning Duncan was teasing him and he was just screaming, so ticked off! Angry baby! So I got after Duncan for being a turkey and calmed Asher down, which isn't easy, he doesn't go from 100 to 0 nearly as fast! Good times.

Duncan and Dylan turned 5 yesterday! FIVE! can you believe it? I really can't. Time flies when you have kids, it's no fair. So happy to have our amazing little 30 weekers!

Yesterday Matthew took him to the store to get treats for the kids and Duncan wanted a big tray of cupcakes. Fortunately Matthew had to call me for something and I told him to imagine a room full of Duncan's and to take pity on the teachers! M&M cookies then? Yes! They thanked me for the cookies (and thanked me more for no cupcakes!).

Grandma Kathy gave Duncan Famous Lady! We have been a long time waiting for Lady and he was so happy to welcome her into his home. FYI. Famous Lady is that silly train I mentioned a little while ago, he has wanted her forever. For a special treat I let him watch TV in my room, by himself, on his birthday and I walked in to him snuggling under a blanket watching Tom & Jerry with Famous Lady in one hand and Thomas in the other. Maybe he's not so big after all.

The D's had their five year well-child check up and they got two shots a piece. Matthew took them (let's take a break and be thankful for a flexible job). Dylan was ticked that someone dare poke her, but Duncan threw a huge fit. Apparently he worked the nurse, he came home with a few random office supplies given to him to make him feel better. Dr. Ped was very impressed with how mobile Dyl is, he said he had no idea she was getting around as well as she does. She is very impressive, I must say...

At some point this week we might figure out how to get mom, dad and the D's out to the ice cream parlor. We tried last night but the stars didn't align. Then, of course, he has his party for the kids on Saturday. Duncan has really been looking forward to it so I am sure he will be so cute with everyone there!

Greyson is still yellow and it seems to be what people like to talk about when they see him so I thought maybe it was just that I was used to his color and it is really bad. So, since the doctor told me to call if he was still yellow at 5 weeks and we were going in six, I called. When I called the nurse said at the very least it will give me something to tell all the people when they mention his yellow! We went in and the yellow is fine, Dr Ped told me he would laminate the results if I needed him to! So funny. He told me the yellow is all broken down, his liver is functioning properly, he is just fading slowly.

Meanwhile, he is a big boy! 10 lbs, 15 oz! Three pounds in six weeks! I already re-purchased his blessing outfit in a 3-6 month size just in case. Boo to that. At least he is super snugly, he loves to nuzzle in under your chin and lay on your chest. He instantly calms down. It's so sweet.

He is smiley but you have to work at it. He finally smiled at his dad a couple nights ago so now Matthew believes me and I guess he gave a grinner to his Uncle Shane the other night. He stills wants to be a bit of a cuddly baby though so I am great with that!

His baby acne is baaaad too! But it's slowly getting better.

We took Dylan, Duncan and Ian to the dentist the other day too. The day after Ian was wrestling with daddy and knocked one of his front teeth crooked. Yes, we might have an ugly dead front tooth on our hands folks. Especially bad because it bled at the gum line. Yay! Boys!

Duncan's teeth looked great though, I was a little nervous because he had complained about a tooth ache but the dentist told us that his six-year molars were moving up and they have a lot of kids complain about it aching at this age.

They tried to peek at Dylan's again and told us we should feed her and brush her teeth so the chemistry of her saliva doesn't change to a form that causes build up. Gross. Did anyone ask her about this though? Because she doesn't think it's very cool. But I did brush her teeth this morning and aside from a good solid gag, I must say it went pretty well. I told Matthew any time he has yogurt or pudding, she should get a spoonful though and that will help delay the change in the saliva. Spit is gross.

I must add, at the dentist Matthew was holding Dylan, as usual, and she wanted me. Okay let's be honest, rarely do ANY of the kids prefer me over daddy. She WANTED me! We were surprised! But, Holla! She proceeded to have a seizure and fall asleep in my arms until I laid her down for the dentist to torture her.

I have been starting to plant the potty seed on Ian and he isn't buying it, at all. I ask him "you want to go in the potty like big brother?" "Nope!" "What about like daddy? Want to go on the potty like daddy?" (Can you hear to excitement in my voice? Because I am trying to make the potty sound VERY interesting!) and he goes "Nope!" Yikes.

Meanwhile, he said the longest sentence he has ever said to me in the car this morning. I left Grey with our neighbor to snuggle while I picked the kids up from school and took them to "Old McDonald's" for lunch (for birthday). We were half way to the school when Ian said "why baby not come mama?" I was like "what?!" and after I told him I left the baby with Dana I called Matthew as fast as I could to tell him. No more two or three word sentences. It was like, so super cute.

Biggest and littlest

Not too many pictures of this cute face... mostly because he is just completely ticked off most of the time.

Not sure where the other boy is, but these guys were sitting still, so snap a picture while you can right?

My girl in her BRIGHT outfit. The early nineties are BACK!

Look at me even settling for a blurry picture of this smile!

One eyebrow up, one down. This was right around when he smiled at his daddy so he must have just figured out all daddy wanted was a smile.

Ian is very proud of his drawing of an airplane. I was too actually, so we took a picture. (Excuse the battle wound, Duncan was fighting like a girl...)

I am alive!
A friend made sure I read an article about how important it is to have pictures of mom, and that my adorable children aren't going to care that I am chubby chubster right now, so to make sure I got in the picture every once and a while.

Llama llama, mad at mama!

Snoozing in his ghosty outfit from Aunt Traci! It's so stinking cute... and now almost too small. Boo!

Chilling at the doctor, waiting to get the yellows checked out. What a cutie.

Aren't they cute? My snugglers! (And also, my most fair and my darkest!)

Getting a good shot at the hair. With his daddy's hairline it's hard to see how much fluff this little guy has!
